Game reviewsBloodrayne Call Of Duty Contract J.A.C.K. Doom 3 Far Cry No One Lives Forever No One Lives Forever 2 Tomb Raider: Angel Of Darkness Wars & Warriors: Joan Of Arc |
Ever wanted to rewrite history? Well here's your chance. As Joan Of Arc, you get to play through
all the major battles of The 100 Years War between France And England. The graphics, background
music and sound-effects are all great and capture the mood of the game perfectly. But what really
makes this title stand out is that it's cross-genre. This is a bold move, as other games which
have attempted this in the past have failed for various reasons. But the team at Enlight Software
got it right. Essentially Joan Of Arc is an action/rts hybrid, but there are also strong elements
of roleplaying involved, with regard to character development. The 3 genres fit together absolutely
perfectly. At a click of a button, you can move between 3rd-person action and rts mode. The graphics
look great in both modes, plus you get to zoom in and out with both. Probably the most impressive
graphical aspect is the fully rendered grass and vegetation on the highest detail setting. Some
of the enemy faces don't look very realistic at maximum zoom in action mode, but that's a minor
complaint. Joan, of course, looks amazing. Gameplay features include horse-riding abilities for Joan
and the other commanders. You can switch between available commanders whenever you want and they each
have their own unique abilities. You are also able to open and close drawbridges and gates. Troops can
be assigned under separate commanders and can be transferred between commanders when necessary. There
are also 5 types of siege weapons that can be used in campaigns, depending on availability. The battles
are very challenging, even on easier settings, but it never feels impossible. The cool thing is the
flexibility of the levels, you can complete any campaign in either mode, although the bigger battles
are more suited to rts mode. On the rpg side, the commanders gain experience for their own kills
and kills made by their troops. There are bonus points available at each level-up to improve stats
and the abundant abilities available. This is a game that will appeal to a wide variety of gamers
because it has something for everyone. I recommend at least 512mb of RAM or else it will
run a bit sluggishly regardless of your graphics card. © Action Girls 2004.
