Contract J.A.C.K. review

From the award winning No One Lives Forever series comes Contract J.A.C.K.. This time around however, you get to see things from the opposite perspective. You play as John Jack aka Contract J.A.C.K., a hitman in the employ of H.A.R.M.. Built on the NOLF 2 graphics engine and menu system, there are nonetheless many changes. For starters, the skill points system has been done away with and the stealth elements are also gone. The reason for this is the emphasis on all-out action this time and you wouldn't be able to sneak around even if you tried. Right from the first minute of the game you are thrust headfirst into the unrelenting pace. I was initially quite surprised as I didn't expect the gameplay to be so radically different to that of it's predecessors. If anything I was anticipating an even greater degree of stealth element, given the title of the game. That said however, if you play Contract J.A.C.K. on it's own merits and don't compare it too much to NOLF 1 and NOLF 2, it has a lot to offer. Once again there is a lively mix of zany characters(along with a surprise or two) and the dialogue is as hilarious as ever, which is exactly what fans have come to expect from the NOLF franchise. If you play on the highest difficulty setting, you can expect one of the most intense shooting fests ever. I don't want to give too much away, but when you pass the test to qualify for H.A.R.M. employment early in the game, you've earned it, believe me ;) The game is set between NOLF 1 and NOLF 2 and sets the stage for the events which unfold in NOLF 2, sort of a prequel sequel if you will. Die-hard fans of the series may feel disappointed at the omission of the stealth elements of the previous two games, but at the end of the day it's still NOLF and you know you can't get enough! Note: As with NOLF 2 you will need at least 512mb of RAM for the game to run smoothly. © Action Girls 2004.
